Read for the World Record update

Wow! You guys are doing great with the Reading for the World Record! Keep up all of the great reading. For May, we read 40,000 minutes, which means our goal for the end of the summer total is at least 58,000 minutes. I have no doubt that we are going to make it. And, I talked with Mr. Armstrong, and he said if we get to 100,000 minutes, he'll participate in a fun stunt! Any suggestions? Spray his hair red? Pie in the face? Comment on this post and let me know your ideas. And keep tracking your minutes: http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/record/

TumbleBooks update

I posted last year about TumbleBooks and TumbleReadables, but I wanted to make sure the link was easily accessible. TumbleBooks and TumbleReadables are databases provided FOR FREE by the Parkland Community Library. On TumbleBooks, students can listen to and read along with popular picture books and they've added lots more great books, including one of my favorites, Louise, the Adventures of a Chicken by Kate DiCamillo. On TumbleReadables, there are books for upper elementary students, middle schoolers and young adults. There is also a section for the classics and Shakespeare. Students can read or listen to the full text of novels right on the site. Check it out and let me know what you think!

(You must access the sites through the Parkland Library website.)

Make a Splash -- Read! @ your local public library

There are many public libraries in the Lehigh Valley, and you can join the Summer Reading Programs and borrow books from any of them. First, though, you have to get a card from your home branch. If you are unsure of where your home library is, check out this link from the Allentown Public Library:

More on Reading for the World Record!

This summer we are doing something a little different for the summer reading program, as a community we are going to participate in Scholastic's Read for the World Record program. Last year, students from across the country and around the world combined to read 35,846,094 minutes, and we are hoping to help break the record this year! Students created fun usernames in library class and many have already started tracking their reading minutes. If you have any questions or your student lost his or her username, feel free to contact me. The website is: http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/record/.
