I know we have told you about TumbleBooks before, but we have a trial subscription for the summer, so you don't have to access it through the public library website.  Just go to:

And login with the following info:

TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of TumbleBooks – animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.  There are even many books that you can access on your iPad.

Looking for a good book to read?

The Houston Area Independent Schools Library Network puts together great lists of recommended books for Preschoolers through 12th graders. Need an idea of a good book to read? Why not check it out?

Summer Reading!

We are getting ready for summer reading! The students will be getting their logins for the Scholastic Read for the Record site next week in library class. The website to track their minutes is http://www.scholastic.com/summer/. There is also a cool Reading Timer app that you can download on your phone, iPad, or other tablet, where you can time how long you read and track your minutes directly from the app! Read for the World Record!

Wow! You have read over 200,000 minutes. That's amazing! Keep up the great reading and keep tracking your minutes. We are currently in 30th place in the whole country! If we can crack the Top 20, we will be listed in the 2012 Scholastic Book of Records. Together, we can do it!

2011 Read for the World Record!

We are once again participating in Scholastic's Read for the World Record Challenge. We have already read more than we read all last summer - 134,000 minutes!!! Great job! Keep up the great reading and keep tracking your minutes. Our goal is to double last year's total and to be in the top 20 schools in the country! We are currently ranked number 25! More on Reading for the World Record!

This summer we are doing something a little different for the summer reading program, as a community we are going to participate in Scholastic's Read for the World Record program. Last year, students from across the country and around the world combined to read 35,846,094 minutes, and we are hoping to help break the record this year! Students created fun usernames in library class and many have already started tracking their reading minutes. Summer Reading - be a Star Reader!

This summer, in order to be a Star Reader, students need to participate in a Summer Reading Program through their local public library. Each public library has its own program based on the theme "Be Creative @ Your Library". In addition to offering prizes for students who complete a reading log, libraries also offer many free programs for residents including story times, craft programs, theatre, music, science and lots of other fun activities. For the first time, many libraries will even let you track your reading online, so you can participate even if you are going to be away for the summer. Visit your local public library to find out more!
